Why is it that every single Camry on the road has a big-ass dent in the corner of its rear bumper?

Because it’s a Camry and no matter what you do to the exterior, it’s still going to roll for another 300,000 miles.

Because the average Camry driver backs up by feel over using their mirrors.

They backed into something themselves.
They got an estimate and it was $1800

Do a GIS of “toyota dent”. Seriously, WTF? This happens to front and rear bumpers on Camrys, Priuses, and Corollas for some reason. It’s like someone is out there kicking Toyota bumpers.

I call it the “Camry Corner.” My brother in law has a Camry. I’ve only seen it a handful of times because my sister drives them everywhere in her car. I asked him a while back if his Camry happened to have a dent on the rear bumper and the answer was “yes.” He asked how I knew and I explained the Camry Corner to him haha

Again, you should see the MOUNTAIN of bumpers we accumulate in just a single week here at my dealer from cars that are polar opposites to Camry. But, nobody is actively singling these cars out. I should start posting every single AMG, Volvo, Lotus, and Aston that comes in with similar but usually worse dents and start my own “it’s always a _____” stereotype

On the list of things to take seriously some guys on the Internet poking fun at a common bumper dent really shouldn’t be high. There’s more important things in life dude.
Eric @ opposite-lock.com

03/09/2016 at 07:27 | 0 |
No, I’m saying that this type of dent seems to be incredibly common in them. It’s probably not a coincidence that everyone sees this picture and thinks of Toyota. I wonder if it’s the material they use and Toyota simply attaches the bumper covers better with airspace behind their corners, so when someone runs into something they tend to get one of these odd dents instead of something requiring immediate repairs.
Eric @ opposite-lock.com

03/09/2016 at 07:39 | 0 |
When someone hits a BMW hard enough to do this, it probably breaks the cover or breaks the corner of the bumper loose. People have to get those fixed. These Camry drivers can keep going. It could also be that people that own them don’t care as much about how their car looks for whatever reason, so this superficial damage doesn’t bother them much.
As I said, it wouldn’t be a pattern to anyone if it wasn’t common enough to become a pattern. Something about the cars and/or their owners causes this.

People that drive an economy car might not have the $500-$1500 to fix bumper dent that may or may not have been their fault like people in a new BMW? Wow, I would of never thought that.
I work here . You should see the mountain of bumpers we stack up by the end of the week. No stereotype formed here though.... interesting

A Camry is hardly an economy car. Chances are that most have full coverage insurance, too.
I’m not faulting the driver, it could be multiple aspects of the design and mostly from parking lots (dangerous places) where some other car/driver might have done it (I had a car once that was absolutely notorious for bumper hits because something about the shape confused other drivers).
I’m hardly one to throw stones. I bought a car with a nice smooth dent in the body that a PDR guy could have took out for like $50, but I never cared and drove it for 8 years.
I think one of my coworker’s with a Camry has a dent like this. I should ask him how he got it.

What i meant is that our customers get dings and bumps all the time as well, we give them quotes, and they go along their merry way as well. Not all the time, but it does happen. There are more Camry (new and used) on the road so duh this situation would happen more. No reason it should get singled out. Also, lol “if a BMW gets hit hard enough”. I’ve owned 5 of those shits and any little pebble would ding those things. A damn basketball pushed in the left rear fender on the Z4 2 weeks ago. I haven’t fixed and probably won’t til the ding guy here at work is free and have the cash.... which is forever from now. #it’s always a Z4
